List of Bible Verses on Humility

Matthew 23:12

And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be humbled; and whosoever shall humble himself shall be exalted.

Colossians 3:12

Put on therefore, as God’s elect, holy and beloved, a heart of compassion, kindness, lowliness, meekness, longsuffering;

Philippians 2:3-11

doing nothing through faction or through vainglory, but in lowliness of mind each counting other better than himself; not looking each of you to his own things, but each of you also to the things of others. Have this mind in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: who, existing in the form of God, counted not the being on an equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, taking the form of a servant, being made in the likeness of men; and being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, becoming obedient even unto death, yea, the death of the cross. Wherefore also God highly exalted him, and gave unto him the name which is above every name; that in the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven and things on earth and things under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Romans 12:3

For I say, through the grace that was given me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think as to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to each man a measure of faith.

James 4:6

But he giveth more grace. Wherefore the scripture saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace to the humble.

1 Peter 5:5-6

Likewise, ye younger, be subject unto the elder. Yea, all of you gird yourselves with humility, to serve one another: for God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace to the humble. Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time;

Proverbs 3:34

Surely he scoffeth at the scoffers; But he giveth grace unto the lowly.

Proverbs 10:8

The wise in heart will receive commandments; But a prating fool shall fall.

Proverbs 18:12

Before destruction the heart of man is haughty; And before honor goeth humility.

Proverbs 25:9

Debate thy cause with thy neighbor himself, And disclose not the secret of another;

Proverbs 26:1-12

As snow in summer, and as rain in harvest, So honor is not seemly for a fool. As the sparrow in her wandering, as the swallow in her flying, So the curse that is causeless alighteth not. A whip for the horse, a bridle for the ass, And a rod for the back of fools. Answer not a fool according to his folly, Lest thou also be like unto him. Answer a fool according to his folly, Lest he be wise in his own conceit. He that sendeth a message by the hand of a fool Cutteth off his own feet, and drinketh in damage. The legs of the lame hang loose: So is a parable in the mouth of fools. As one that bindeth a stone in a sling, So is he that giveth honor to a fool. As a thorn that goeth up into the hand of a drunkard, So is a parable in the mouth of fools. As an archer that woundeth all, So is he that hireth a fool and he that hireth them that pass by. As a dog that returneth to his vomit, So is a fool that repeateth his folly. Seest thou a man wise in his own conceit? There is more hope of a fool than of him.

Proverbs 15:33

The fear of Jehovah is the instruction of wisdom; And before honor goeth humility.

Proverbs 11:2

When pride cometh, then cometh shame; But with the lowly is wisdom.

Proverbs 22:4

The reward of humility and the fear of Jehovah Is riches, and honor, and life.

Psalms 149:4

For Jehovah taketh pleasure in his people: He will beautify the meek with salvation.

Psalms 37:11

But the meek shall inherit the land, And shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace.

Psalms 138:6

For though Jehovah is high, yet hath he respect unto the lowly; But the haughty he knoweth from afar.

Psalms 147:6

Jehovah upholdeth the meek: He bringeth the wicked down to the ground.

Isaiah 57:15

For thus saith the high and lofty One that inhabiteth eternity, whose name is Holy: I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also that is of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite.

Luke 22:24-27

And there arose also a contention among them, which of them was accounted to be greatest. And he said unto them, The kings of the Gentiles have lordship over them; and they that have authority over them are called Benefactors. But ye shall not be so: but he that is the greater among you, let him become as the younger; and he that is chief, as he that doth serve. For which is greater, he that sitteth at meat, or he that serveth? is not he that sitteth at meat? but I am in the midst of you as he that serveth.

Isaiah 66:2

For all these things hath my hand made, and so all these things came to be, saith Jehovah: but to this man will I look, even to him that is poor and of a contrite spirit, and that trembleth at my word.

Ephesians 4:2

with all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love

Luke 14:7-11

And he spake a parable unto those that were bidden, when he marked how they chose out the chief seats; saying unto them, When thou art bidden of any man to a marriage feast, sit not down in the chief seat; lest haply a more honorable man than thou be bidden of him, and he that bade thee and him shall come and say to thee, Give this man place; and then thou shalt begin with shame to take the lowest place. But when thou art bidden, go and sit down in the lowest place; that when he that hath bidden thee cometh, he may say to thee, Friend, go up higher: then shalt thou have glory in the presence of all that sit at meat with thee. For everyone that exalteth himself shall be humbled; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.

Mark 9:35

And he sat down, and called the twelve; and he saith unto them, If any man would be first, he shall be last of all, and servant of all.
